Let The beat Go on

I had shared with you a while ago that I stopped listening to music during my runs because I used it as a way to time myself.  You see, I could measure my speed based on what song was playing on my playlist when I reached a certain point along my route.  As you all know, since letting go of this need to time myself, and instead letting my body guide my distance and speed, my success with running and weight loss has been incredible.  I have reached a steady balance and have even been able to test the waters without losing control.  Let me explain further.

I haven’t been able to run for a few days because of errands and appointments.  When I was finally able to get back outside, I decided to jump-start my run by bringing along my iPod.  I thought it would be fun to listen to one of those playlists and compare my running to last summer.  I used Pink’s “Raise Your Glass” as my time marker.  There is a line in the song where there is no music, just her saying a phrase.  My goal was to make it to the bus stop in front of the mall before I heard this part of the song. Well, the rush that I experienced when I made it past the mall before the song even came on is indescribable!  Then I even made it two more intersections before hearing that phrase in the song.  It was exhilarating; I raised my arms in triumph.  I will remember that runner’s high for a long, long time.
