Giving Back

Giving Back
One of the things that I do with my running log is to donate a certain amount of money to charity based on the amount of miles I complete each month.  Currently I donate  a quarter per mile that I run.  While this may not seem like a lot, it can add up.  A 100 mile month will be $25.  If I do this every month of the year that is $300 in extra money I will donate to charity.

A side benefit of doing this, it helps to keeps me motivated during my runs.  It also holds me accountable. One day I hope to increase this to $1 a mile, but $0.25 is better than nothing.  I am sure the charity is not going to complain either.

If you are already giving more than enough to charity over the year or currently do not have it in your budget to donate, you can also set aside a certain amount per mile to help put money away. Maybe you want to eventually join a gym or buy a treadmill.  Maybe, you want to treat yourself to a race.

Does anyone else doing anything per mile that they run?
