My kids hardly ever eat
anything other than honey-nut cheerios or my homemade granola for breakfast,
but when we were at the grocery store yesterday my oldest wanted to put a box
of Trix in the cart. We decided on Frosted Flakes instead and he was
really excited about this extra special treat.
So was his daddy, as Frosted Flakes is one of his favorite cereals.
Upon returning home, we
quickly unpacked the perishables and then settled into our seats around the
table for a crunchy bowl of Frosted Flakes.
This delicious snack was made even sweeter by the smiles and cheerful
conversation we all shared about school, weekend plans and visits with family.
When I was a kid, my mom
hardly ever allowed sugary cereal in the house.
When I got older and moved out, I totally overindulged on all kinds of
food, thus beginning my journey on the weight gain roller coaster. I want my kids to know that we won’t buy this
cereal or others like it every time we go to the store. Nor will we buy cookies every time we go past
the bakery. But every so often, it’s
good to treat yourself to something comforting and satisfying. For me, there’s nothing better than a good
old bowl of cereal and milk.
