42:39

Tonight was a speed session.  I have been getting ready mentally for a few days since I checked the weather forecast  and saw that the heat finally was going to break and the temperature was going to be in the low 70’s..  I decided to take my watch and do a timed run tonight,

Before I went out, I debated on whether to take music with me.  The last time I took music, I got bored with it and turned off the IPOD in the middle of the run.  This was a great decision on my part.

The run started off great.  I was flying.  I made it to the first turn in 1:15.  I made it up the first hill in 5:15 and reached the mile market in 7:30.  It felt great.  I continued onto the next hill and reached the top in 9:30.  I got to the 2 mile mark in 15:45.

These were all new personal bests.  I thought to myself, this could be it.  Can I finish this run in under 40 minutes?  It was going to be close.  I knew to have a chance, I would have to make it to my turn around spot in 20 minutes.    The 20 minute mark came and went but this time, it was outside of the tunnel. I made it to the turn around point in 20:30.

I  kept on pushing.  I was confident I would not run out of gas.  I have been incorporating some longer runs of 6 and 7 miles the past few months.  It has paid off.  When I reach the approximate  4 mile mark in 33:30, I knew I was not going to break 40, but I would have a personal best.  I made it to the top of the last hill in 39:45 and made the last turn to finish strong.  When I took my step at the end of the run and pressed stop on my watch, it read 42:39.

This was about 2 minutes faster than my last timed run.  I have 2:39 left to go.  Now that the weather is cooler, I am confident I will break this soon.
