Streaking!!! We're going streaking. I just checked my running log and see I have ran for 7 consecutive days. My longest consecutive streak is 11 days. It does not happen too often that I put together a string of 6 or more days running. Between the weather, family commitments, house stuff and my job, a day off or two a week is sometimes a necessity
With a three day weekend coming up, it looked like I had a shot to achieve a new record of 12 consecutive running days. I went for a fast run last night and planned on doing a long run today. However, I took a day off to spend some with my wife. We cooked dinner and may watch a movie tonight.
I try not to get too hung up on these streaks. I have run into trouble in the past. While it can be fun to see how many days in a row you are able to complete, it can also be detrimental. Sometimes we do not think of the big picture. I have had too many injuries over the years because I did not take a day off and pushed myself when I should have rested. Also, mentally it may take a toll. You may run 10 days straight and then the next time only make it to 3 before you need a day off.
Enjoy yourself but do not get caught up in the hype. There is no shame in a day off. It does not make you any less of a runner. Two 4 days streaks may be better than 10 consecutive days.
What is the longest streak you have had and why did it stop?
