A Run, Just What I Needed

Last night was one of those nights where I could have stayed home and skipped my run.  The commute was long and hot.  It is the time of year where people are either hot or cold, and not in between.  The bus ride home was not an exception.  All the windows were shut and the driver turned off the air.  Some people were very comfortable and others like me were getting hot.

I have had issues in the past with feeling nauseous on the bus, but I thought I have gotten over it.  Yesterday, it came back with a vengeance.  I tried to open my window, but it was one of those windows that only has an opening at the top.  It did not help.  There were a lot of turns and the bus made frequent stops to let people off.  By the time I arrived at my stop and got off, I was close to puking.

I still decided to go out for a run.  Even as I was getting dressed, my wife looked at me and said, “You do not look so good, you can stay home tonight.”  I knew sitting at home looking at the computer would not help me feel better, but the cool autumn air would.  I decided I would take it easy and only do a short 3 mile run and if I needed to; I would turn around at the 1 mile mark.

I got out there and felt great after about 5 minutes.  I took my hat off during part of the run to let the cool wind blow through my hair.  I wound up running 4 miles instead of 3.

This time a run was just what I needed.
