If You Think You Can, You Can

I was looking at my wedding pictures the other day, marveling at the difference in my face between then and now.  I am about 50 pounds lighter than I was on that very special day.  The funny thing is, at the time I wasn’t even aware of how big I had become.  I think it finally sank in one day when we were playing softball.  One of my teammates patted me on the belly and made some lame joke.  I laughed it off, but promised myself to lose the weight by the next season.  I did.

It was difficult.  Running helps as much as changing my diet.  Losing weight and keeping it off takes tremendous will power.  There are so many challenges you will face.  At work, you may have to contend with birthday celebrations or invitations to order in for lunch.   What do you do when friends invite you for drinks after work, or when nobody feels like cooking and your family reaches for the take out menus?

Don’t give up.  You will lose the weight and you will start to see results.  If you think you can, you can.  If you think you can’t, you can’t.

Are you in the process of losing weight?  What are you having the most success with?  What are you having the least success with?

  1. Yes, just started, which is why I found your blog. I am having the most success with my fitness pal on my phone to keep track with the calorie intake. I also love nike+ to track my runs. I got down to a 14, 18 months ago and then two close bereavements in that time have found me comfort eating, having too much wine and working too hard, so I have negotiated a 16 week break from full-time work and have halved it and now will be doing 25 hours. So along with spending time with my family, I will concentrate on running, swimming and cutting a good few calories out!

  2. Sounds like a plan!!!

Comfort eating. I understand how that goes. Whenever, I get nervous or anxious and I start reaching for food. What helped me was to always have fruits and vegetables ready to eat nearby.

Welcome to the site. How do you like Nike+?
